THE DECLARATION OF THE ESTABLISHMENT

“THE ASSOCIATION OF THE COASTAL MALACCA STRAIT’S SCHOLARS”

Malacca Strait is an area with a myriad of events and history that inspiring the archipelago. The Malacca Strait, which is the busiest and oldest trade area in the world, was originally inhabited by the Malay tribes and migrants from South India and later became the shipping center of the Indonesian archipelago, the China Sea and the Indian Ocean. This strait is located between Malaysia Peninsula (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore) and Sumatra Island, Indonesia (Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau & Riau Islands). The Malacca Strait is located around 95 ° East longitude -103 ° East longitude.

The Malacca Strait is one of the most important shipping lines in the world, as important as the Suez Canal or the Panama Canal. The Malacca Strait forms a canal shipping line between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, also connecting three of the largest population countries in the world: India, Indonesia and the People’s Republic of China. Approximately 90,000 ships cross the Malacca Strait annually, carrying about one fifth and one quarter of the world’s sea trade.

As a fast growing business shipping line, the Malacca Strait still faces various problems of security, the threat of drug trafficking and other crime that are organized internationally. In addition, the imbalance of development in the coast of the strait is an issue that requires attention. Regional economic inequality, poverty and destruction of the coastal environment of the mangrove and forest and land fires are issues that still require our attention, especially among the scientists and scholars in this area

Based on those ideas, we as the scholars from various disciplines and educational institutions both in Indonesia and Malaysia and other countries which are located on the Malacca Strait, hereby declare the establishment of the “THE ASSOCIATION OF THE COASTAL MALACCA STRAIT’S SCHOLARS” with the following provisions:
